The BURD (Bal Urja Rakshak Dal) Program: School Energy Intervention

This is an annual school energy intervention project funded by the Gujarat Energy Development Agency since 2003. The program focuses on imparting energy and environment education through participatory activities. The program aims to mobilize school children to make wise energy choices through various action activities viz. energy audit study in schools and homes, neighbourhood energy survey programs, energy efficient building designs, mapping biomass of the School premises. Competitions, contest and celebrations are important and the most popular component of the intervention. The competitions viz. drawing, debate, energy quiz contests and celebrations like Urja Utsav, organizing green festivals are some of the most popular activities of this intervention. Annually the CSC reaches to approx 125 schools and over 10,000 children and teachers.
